This duet sounds with cello  and double-bass much more transparent than the original with two cellos,  because the different tone colors of cello and double-bass help to  distinguish the individual voices. The double-bass plays the second  voice mostly in real sound, so that his voice is mostly noted an octave  higher  than the original and therefore is more demandingly, since he  plays in thumb position without exception, too.
